PRP is a substance derived from a patient’s own blood, which is then placed into a centrifuge to spin down into three layers: platelet rich plasma, platelet poor plasma, and red blood cells. The Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) – often referred to as ‘liquid gold’ – will be used and the rest will be tossed. The resulting plasma is "platelet-rich" – these platelets are vital in the process of tissue healing, and the growth of new cells. PRP thereby promotes collagen production, regenerates tissue, and essentially re-energizes your cells! When injected into the scalp, PRP nourishes and stimulates the hair follicles, resulting in the generation of new hair, and improved density and health of existing hair.

PRP has many uses other than hair restoration. In aesthetics, PRP can be used in conjunction with other anti-aging treatments to enhance results, or as a stand-alone treatment, such as facial injections (in some instances, PRP is used in place of dermal filler). PRP can treat a wide range of aesthetic concerns, including facial wrinkles and fine lines, acne scarring, uneven skin tone and texture, dull complexion, hyperpigmentation issues, skin laxity and enlarged pores. Although many patients start to see improvements in hair texture, thickness of hair shaft, and growth of new hair in the treated area within a few weeks after treatment, it typically takes 3-6 months after your final treatment to see measurable results. Although the exact treatment plan will vary from patient to patient, we generally recommend 3 treatments, 4 weeks apart, and a fourth treatment 3-4 months after your initial series. Yearly maintenance treatments are often recommended to maintain optimal results, but are definitely not required.

Hair restoration with PRP is not a permanent solution to all forms of hair loss, but is a long-lasting one (results last 12-18 months!). You can easily maintain your results with follow-ups once annually after your initial series of treatments.
